Digital Landscape Courses at Westonbirt, The National Arborerum, Tetbury

This is a day workshop (10.30am - 3.30 pm) spent at this fabulous location developing your skills both in camera technique and understanding of digital technology. Aimed primarily at the beginner or those who have a digital camera but lack the confidence/knowledge to move away from the Auto Mode setting. We will take you through the various settings, consider how and when best to use them, look for at ways of improving our oppotunities for capturing better images and generally improving your skills and understanding. Time will be spent out on location - for the more advanced photographer you will be encouraged to use your imagination and creative skills out on your own in the Arboretum, for those requiring some input to their images, we will spend time together on location looking at ways to improve your composition and creative abilities.
It is intended for this course to be both a learning experience and an enjoyable day in this great location.
Following the shoot on location we will return to look at images, assess them and discuss ways of improving. We will also consider ways of managing those images on your computers and image manipulation.
Numbers will restricted to a maximum of 10 per course.
Dates for 2012 . 23 March (full), 13th April (full), 18th May, 20th July
Please note these courses can fill up very quickly - we advise booking asap.
Cost - £55.00 per delegate ( includes entrance fee to the Arboretum and tea/coffee).
See www.acerpress.co.uk for details of Grahams' new book on Westonbirt.

Advanced Digital Photography Workshop

These workshops are aimed at those who feel fairly confident with the main controls of their digital cameras but want to increase their understanding of issues such as depth of field, aperture and shutter speed relationships, file formats, image management and manipulation (a limited amount of time will be spent on this), better composition and exposure control, white balance and so on.
Much of the time will be spent on practical assignment working as weather permits around the Arboretum with as much individual attention from your tutor as is possible. Group sizes will be restricted to 6 to ensure we can give as much attention to each delegate as is needed.
This course will greatly enhance your confidence and understanding enabling you to capture great landscapes not just on the day, but in the future.
Suitable outdoor clothing is recommended. As for equipment, Digital SLR's or Hybrid cameras are suitable for this course. Compact and more simple digital cameras are quite restricitive in their operation and probably would not be suitable. A tripod is essential, plus your camera manual as sometime we need to dig deep into the menu system to change settings!
Dates for these courses are limited and early booking is therefore recommended.
Bookings now being taken for 2012. 23rd April, 21st May.
Ring to discuss alternative options/see Westonbirt Digital Days..
Course fee : £105.00 per delegate. Bring your own lunch - tea & coffee provided.
See www.acerpress.co.uk for details of Grahams' new book on Westonbirt.

 Digital Photography Days

Following on from Graham's already very popular and often over subscribed workshops at Westonbirt, and the success of his book The Wonder & Beauty of Westonbirt' (see www.acerpress.co.uk for details)  by popular demand we are launching a new series of photography days at Westonbirt.

After a brief meeting over a cup of coffee we will go straight out into the arboretum where experienced professional photographer Graham Light will guide you through many aspects of capturing and creating some great images.

We will look at the benefits/disadvantages of shooting RAW or JPEG files

The use of f stops for creative effects in depth of field

The use of filters such as Polarizers and Neutral Density

Shooting modes

Metering and measuring the light for accurate exposures

Understanding the Histogram in your camera and how it can help you in exposure control

Composition of both general landscape images and close up and macro work.

Throughout the day Graham will be on hand to guide and advise and offer you as much help as possible to improve your skills and enjoy the day.

Space will be restricted to a maximum of 5 in the group and will be ideally suited to those photographers who already own a digital SLR but we can also accommodate users of the increasingly popular hybrid camera. It is recommended you bring a tripod, plenty of storage space in your memory card , a fully charged battery along with a spare one as we will be spending the majority of the day on location breaking only for tea/coffee and lunch. Either bring your own (recommended) or purchase on site. Good walking shoes/boots are advised along with waterproof clothing. You will be fully responsible for your own equipment and safety and we advise that all equipment be fully insured.

Price per attendee is £125.00 and includes access to the arboretum and a cup of tea or coffee.

New dates for 2012 will be added soon.
