Based on the outskirts of Cirencester (Capital of the Cotswolds), The Abbey Studios School of Photography is a division of Abbey Studios Ltd., probably the area's longest established photographic studio.
The studio has a history going back to the end of the 19th Century and many of its images are now in permanent store at the Gloucestershire Records office where a unique collection of images taken from the end of the 1800's through to the end of the 1900's is carefully being documented and in some cases digitised for future publication on the web.
Your tutor, Graham Light, is a fully qualified member of the British Institute of Professional Photography, his work is sold and published all over the world. As a studio, the studio has covered major events and Royal visits in the area and further afield. His work takes him around the UK and Europe providing images for several photographic libraries that represent his work around the world.
Graham Light purchased the business in 1977 and set about bringing it up to date and within a few years taking its turnover from a mere £5000.00 per annum to a six figure value, acquiring a studio in Swindon on the way and the negatives and records of an old established studio in Lechlade. At one stage the studio employed 10 staff and operated from 3 separate studios - two in Swindon and one in Cirencester.
In more recent years Graham has scaled the business down, but the turnover still remains around the six figures per annum.
The School of Photography has grown with the demand for training in photographic skills and in recent times Graham has provided training for both individuals and companies in the area and further afield.
Graham is also an on-line tutor with an international school of photography.
